Designer Handbag Cleaning & Repair: A Complete Guide

Designer handbags from brands like Louis Vuitton and Chanel are renowned for their high quality, expensive materials, and of course, their well-known names. Designer handbags are an investment, therefore it's important to keep them clean to maintain their quality through professional bag cleaning Singapore.

On the outside and inside of your pocketbook, filth, dust, and grime from its surroundings can amass over time. Additionally, the oils from your skin can damage the materials, and things can spill on it or inside of it. Luckily, maintaining your luxury bag in like-new shape is possible if you know how to properly clean your handbag.

Step-by-step guide for designer handbag cleaning and repair:

Care must be exercised when cleaning your luxury bag since improper cleaning might result in irreparable damage. Here is a general guide on cleaning the interior, outside, and hardware of your designer handbag.

Interior purse cleaning for designer bags:

  • You should take everything out of your purse
  • To get rid of any loose particles, turn the bag upside down and shake it vigorously
  • Use a lint roller to get rid of any remaining dust or debris after turning the liner inside out
  • To get rid of any dirt you might have missed, go over the liner with a vacuum that has a brush attachment

Instead of turning your bag inside out to clean the inside corners, we advise using a lint roller, tweezers, and a vacuum with the brush attachment if your bag's interior doesn't have a liner, can't be turned inside out, or is made of leather.

Clean the exterior of a designer purse:

Your purse's exterior gathers dust and debris with time, which can cause a buildup of residue. Depending on the material used to make your luxury bag, there are several ways the bag services may provide designer bag repair and cleaning.

v  Leather:

When cleaning the leather on the outside of your bag, proceed with caution. We advise using fragrance- and alcohol-free wipes, such as leather wipes or baby wipes, to clean extra dirt and residue off of leather bags so that the leather is not dried out in the process.

Use these wipes to clean the exterior of the bag or a microfiber cloth and leather cleaner to clean the exterior of the bag. Use a leather conditioner after that to hydrate the leather and prevent cracking.

You can clean your bag with the aforementioned techniques if it is made of patent leather. To prevent stains and splotches, wipe it off after cleaning it with a soft cloth. You might use a tiny bit of leather cleaning mixed with a baby wipe to try and gently erase any scuffs from your bag.

 v  Fabric:

Typically, a lint roller may be used to clean fabrics like satin, canvas, tweed, and jersey. To gently remove any dirt, dust, or debris clinging to the cloth, use tweezers. Use a baby wipe and OxiClean to lift stains if you see any flaws that require special care.

On non-black satin, silk, or jersey, we do not advise using Oxiclean since it can produce a cleaner stain.

 v  Fur Vs suede:

We advise using a specialized brush to remove dirt, dust, and debris from the exterior of fur or suede bags while cleaning them. Use the brush to carefully remove any stains if any exist. Brush the fur on fur bags in the same direction that the hair grows. Brush the suede softly in one direction if it's made of that material. Utilize a suede conditioner after cleaning it to breathe new life into the fabric.

The equipment:

Use a baby wipe to clean the hardware, and then dry it with a soft towel. On rare occasions, the hardware on your bag might discolor the fabric all around it. Fortunately, a magic eraser may be used to gently rub this away.

Use a little Brasso on a cotton swab to polish the hardware if it has begun to tarnish and oxidize. Extreme care must be used since the fabrics of the bag may become stained by liquid metal polish.

How frequently should you clean or repair a designer handbag?

Depending on how frequently you use your luxury bag, choose how often you clean it. We advise cleaning your bag once a week if you use it frequently. It is advised to get two to four cleanings each year if you just use it infrequently.

The handles, base, and corners of your bag also sustain the greatest damage and need further care. To prevent them from deteriorating faster than the rest of the bag, we advise cleaning certain parts of your purse after each usage.

It's crucial to bear in mind that depending on the designer, your luxury bag may require a different cleaning method. Some designers utilize extremely sophisticated techniques, and their bags need specialist cleaning and care to prevent damage.
